CHICAGO BAR 01:01

about

Tucson, Arizona blues stalwarts and members of the Arizona Blues Hall of Fame, Tom Walbank and Mike "Johnny Guitar" Blommer collaborate on this recording.

Raincloud Woman is a song by Tom featuring Muddy Water style slide guitar and some tasteful first and third position backing harmonica.

Peach Orchard Mama is by Big Joe Williams from a session he recorded for Bluebird Records in Aurora, Illinois with John Lee "Sonny Boy" Williamson and Robert Nighthawk. Recorded in 1937 the combined sound they produced was the template for the small combo Chicago sound of the late forties and early fifties. A decade before Muddy first hit!

Short Distance Blues is an instrumental and was recorded at Bob Corritore's Rhythm Room in Phoenix with Howlin' Wolf's piano player Henry Gray in the front row, cheering them on,
"Sounds like Muddy!! Sounds like Muddy!!!" The second guitar solo is classic stinging guitar from Blommer.

Blues before Sunrise is a song from 1934 by Leroy Carr and Scrapper Blackwell. The original version was recorded in St. Louis, MS, birthplace of Mike Blommer.

Going back to country is another Walbank song, a stone cold boogie, a riot of rhythm!

Tamp It Down Solid and Nighthawk Blues are demos from the prep sessions for the album, but they made the grade. These are by Tom Walbank. Nighthawk features Tom paying tribute to another huge influence, John Lee Hooker.

Chicago Bar comes from a live bootleg of The Bad New Blues Band with Tom sitting in with Mike's band on this short but perfectly formed instrumental!
